Traditional EPOS
Do Traditional EPOS systems have a future?
Here at BRS Epos, we have been selling traditional EPOS systems since 2012, but back then it was just an EPOS system. Here we will delve some light into the old traditional EPOS system, what appeal it has over more modern systems and is there still a future in them
Traditional EPOS systems have been the forefront of the Point of Sale system for over 30 years and they still continue to be essential to the running of a successful business. They are mostly Windows based terminals, have the database stored locally either on the till itself, or within the business organisation and are one off purchases with monthly support being an option.
With the database being held locally and not on the internet, this could increase the risk of losing the data, but thankfully in the last few years, solid state drives (SSD) and fanless CPU’s have made the terminals ultra reliable. With the increase in free cloud services from most of the major tech firms, the EPOS system can be set to backup into one of these cloud locations so the risk of data loss is no different than having a cloud EPOS system.
But that’s not the only way Traditional EPOS systems have become more popular. A lot of established businesses would prefer to own an EPOS system outright, knowing that their data is within their own premises. It also minimises the risk of system updates that happens with cloud systems, so that the software doesn’t just suddenly update or change overnight which could potentially impact the business. In a nutshell it gives businesses control.
Then there is the choice of hardware. From our own branded terminals, to Windows laptops and Windows tablets, if it runs Windows, it will run a Traditional EPOS system. Some businesses will have Office installed as well as allowed access to Social Media so that the terminal is not just a place to perform a sale, but act like a hub for the business. It also offers flexibility to create bespoke systems, with third party integrations possible with a huge array of vendors.
It may not always look as modern as the newer cloud EPOS solutions, but the increased functionality certainly outweighs this and it’s clear to see that with this in mind, that the Traditional EPOS system will be round for a long time still. At BRS Epos, we believe that Universal and ICG both offer businesses the right functionality that you would expect for a business.
